Los Angeles: The Price Guide

I am starting this series on City Price Guides for cities I visited to help you better plan your budget. I try to calculate the average cost per day including accommodation, food, transportation and some other activities. Obviously, prices can differ, depending on your preferences and likes.

I will be adding more cities here so keep an eye on the page for more 🙂

Average daily cost for visiting Los Angeles

Budget: $60

Mid-range $160

Average price per single bed in a shared room $40

Average price per private room/night with a double bed is $180 ($90 for 1 person)

One advice for finding an accommodation. Don’t choose your place on the right side of the Interstate 5 or you will spend hours and hours trying to get to places with favorite tourist attractions.

  • The best way to get around Los Angeles is by car. You can book your car and compare prices here. The average cost for a one-day rental is around $50 – $65
  • Public transport one day pass $7
  • UberX single ride $6 – $15

Average cost per food/day: $30 – $70

  • Breakfast: $7 – $15
  • Dinner: $15 – $35
  • Lunch: $8 – $20
  • Coffee: $2.50 – $7

You can choose from local coffee places or go to Starbucks that is literally at every corner.

Eating in fast-food restaurants will obviously cost you less but L.A. is full of great restaurants so you should definitely try some nice local food, that is also a bit pricier.

Most of the Hollywood tours and theme parks in L.A. are quite expensive but they worth going once in a lifetime. If you are looking for cheaper alternatives, go to some of the museums (LACMA is a great one) or to a cinema.

  • Theme parks and Hollywood tours $100
  • Museums are cheaper $15
  • Cinema $12 – 15
  • The Getty Center – FREE

  • Beer: $4 – $7
  • Cocktail: $10 – $15

Try to look for a happy hour offers.
